Scripture Reading

Genesis 15:1-12, 17-18
After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, "Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great." But Abram said, "O Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?" And Abram said, "Behold, thou hast given me no offspring; and a slave born in my house will be my heir." And behold, the word of the LORD came to him, "This man shall not be your heir; your own son shall be your heir." And he brought him outside and said, "Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them." Then he said to him, "So shall your descendants be." And he believed the LORD; and he reckoned it to him as righteousness. And he said to him, "I am the LORD who brought you from Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to possess." But he said, "O Lord GOD, how am I to know that I shall possess it?" He said to him, "Bring me a heifer three years old, a she-goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon." And he brought him all these, cut them in two, and laid each half over against the other; but he did not cut the birds in two. And when birds of prey came down upon the carcasses, Abram drove them away. As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram; and lo, a dread and great darkness fell upon him. When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces. On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, "To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates...

A great big thank you goes to the Membership Committee for a wonderful picnic. There was excellent food provided by everyone. The little children enjoyed crafts and games in the lower level of the Lodge. The others participated in table games inside the lodge and played cornhole and croquet outdoors. Everyone left with smiling faces.

Dear Church Family, Thank you for being near this last year as I have needed help. I know I can always call on you. I enjoy your visits when you bring communion and I enjoy getting church news. Thank you for the cards and calls for my 101st birthday. I cannot thank you enough. Ruby Wallheiser

Dear First Christian Church, Thank you so much for the beautiful framed plaque with comforting words. Dear Pastor:
Today is the anniversary of the death of my mother, Lois Boling. She was a member of your church for many decades and brought up her three sons in the faith, I being the youngest. I have fond memories of Sunday mornings at First Christian Church, being baptized at about age 8, and attending Vacation Bible School.
I left Bedford in 1967 to join the Navy and after serving 25 years settled in Jacksonville, FL. Today is both sad and happy, sad that it is the anniversary of my mother's death and happy in knowing she is with the Lord. She and my father, Harrell, are both interred at Green Hill Cemetery.
To honor the memory of my mother please accept the enclosed check. Add it to your general fund our use it as you deem appropriate. May God bless you, Michael J. Boling

Bob and First Christian Church, Thank you so much with your help and prayers for Orin "Bud" Fultz. I know he and Lenora enjoyed their time with your church. In Our Prayers, Lenora, Don & Lana Ingle, Cherie & family, Chad & family

Thank you for the care package! As usual, the cookie was delicious and more than enough to share with Josten, my roommate. We both enjoyed it and have plans to send my new Super Diver parachuting out her bedroom window this week. I love all the toys you have sent me!
I pray that all of you are doing well and that I see each of you this summer. In Christian Love, Stephanie Waltz

Thank you for allowing the Historic Preservation Committee to hold their first murder mystery dinner in your fellowship hall. It was a wonderful location for the event and everyone had a great time - several commented on what a beautiful facility it is. You were gracious and generous to work with and Joyce and Steve and Rev. Dailey went out of their way to accommodate us. We sincerely appreciate it.
We have two more murder mysteries planned and may be calling you again!

This is a letter of appreciation for all the help and the cards that were given during the time of my illness, A special thank you to Bonnie Duncan, Marilyn Olson and Carolyn Tumey for staying with my daughter so my husband could shop, and also come to the hospital. Thank you. - Pat Oakley

Dearest Bob, Leila and all of Our Very Dear Church Friends: I cannot begin to tell you how much your outpouring of love has meant to Pete and me. Your prayers, phone calls, cards and e-mails have given us both strength and hope in what seemed, at times, to be a hopeless situation. After a quadruple by-pass and an implant of a defibrillator/pacemaker, Pete developed an air pocket in his chest cavity along with a hugely swollen arm. The doctors ruled out blood clots and/or a blocked vein from the defibrillator leads, the air dissipated and Pete was released yesterday to a nursing home in Harlingen. And so, I am happy to say, we feel we have the worst behind us and are on the road to recovery. Only if you have been here, will you know how very much your love and support is appreciated. Thank you so very much. With our love, Pete and Freida Fish

Dear Bedford Lions Club Project Supporter: We would like to thank you again for your support of our ongoing Used Eyeglasses and Hearing Aids Collection Project. Thanks to the collection boxes located at various locations around town, we have now collected 40,450 pairs of eyeglasses and 618 hearing aids. These will be repaired and distributed at no cost by the Lions Club Collection Center (glasses) and the Lions Club Loaner Program (hearing aids) to many people in need. This project was started December 15, 1979, and will continue as long as eyeglasses and hearing aids are being collected at the boxes. We could not have had this successful project without your support and cooperation. – James C. Fisher, Sight Conservation Chm.

Thank you for allowing us to use your facility for our assembly meeting luncheon. I heard many comments about how this sharing of space exhibits a true ecumenical spirit in the Bedford community. Blessings, Mark McDaniel, Pastor, First Presbyterian Church

Dear Friends at First Christian Church, I want to thank you for all your prayers, cards, and the Elders bringing me Communion. And, too, the delicious Valentine cookie. My grandchildren were here, so they enjoyed the cookie. Thanks again. – Fondly, Dorothy Roberts

Thank you for the “Cookie-Gram.” I really enjoyed it. – Lois Chase

Dear First Christian Church Members, Thank you for the care package I received during finals week! It’s such a joy to be reminded that I’m both loved and thought of while I’m at school. As always, it was delicious, fun, and quite enjoyable for me (and my roommate!) to devour. I’m thankful for all of you!
In His Love, Stephanie Waltz

Thank you for all your support this year. Without it we would not have been able to accomplish some of our goals this year. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of families in Lawrence County. – Jym Littrell, Executive Director, Lawrence County Habitat for Humanity
