Scripture Reading

Acts 2:1-21
When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. And they were amazed and wondered, saying, "Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? Par'thians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians, we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God." And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, "What does this mean?" But others mocking said, "They are filled with new wine."
But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them, "Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day; but this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
`And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; yea, and on my menservants and my maidservants in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. And I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth beneath, blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke; the sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, before the day of the Lord comes, the great and manifest day. And it shall be that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.'

Thank you for the donation of $323.40. Your gift is much appreciated and will be put to good use carrying out our mission in Lawrence County. As you know, Habitat for Humanity brings together people of compassion to build or renovate simple, decent homes for sale to low income families. Through that process, it is our belief that Habitat builds stronger families and stronger communities. Your gift will help us nurture this effort in Lawrence County. Thank you again for your donation. We look forward to keeping you updated on our progress.

From the Recipient of our Scholarship Fund at Christian Theological Seminary:
Thank you for the gifts given by First Christian Church to their Church Endowed Scholarship at Christian Theological Seminary. Due to the generous giving of congregation members, I am able to attend another year of seminary without the worry associated with tuition costs.
With this blessing I have been granted the ability to absorb knowledge from every class I have taken without the strain of paying for this portion of my education. As a senior approaching graduation in May, I am ever grateful for the support I have received from First Christian Church., whether it has been in the ongoing care of Bedford Christian Camp (I was a camper for 10 years!) or the support given through Christian Theological Seminary, I am grateful. I would not have made it this far without the many blessings given over time.
It is through churches giving to their Church Endowed Scholarships that not only seminary students are supported, but the ministries of the church as a whole are strengthened. When individuals are supported in their callings, they are able to strengthen and shape themselves into faithful leaders for the church. Once again, thank you for your blessings and support.
Sincerely, Bonnie L. Browning

Dear Friends:
Please find enclosed a check in the amount of $12,400 for our seven weeks of camp rental for the summer of 2007.
As always, we are so grateful for the way First Christian partners with the region in this vital ministry. Together, we are able to provide a place for children, youth and adults to explore living in Christian community in the out-of-doors. As we all know, camp is often a setting for people to experience the presence of God in fresh ways.
I appreciate the way we continue to work together through the camp program, as well as your support of regional ministry.
Blessings, Carolyn Reed
